The geometry of the carbon dioxide molecule is linear. The carbon atom has 4 valence electrons and forms a double bond with each oxygen atom, meaning all electrons are involved in bonding. As there are no non-bonding pairs, the shape is not even distorted or bent and remains a perfect 180-degree line. The s and p orbitals of both atoms overlap to form an sp hybrid. ​
