Question

If we have water vapor at 100 oC and 1.2 atm we should expect it to...

If we have water vapor at 100 oC and 1.2 atm we should expect it to condense into liquid water as this is the most stable phase under those conditions (i.e. the boiling point of water should be higher than 100 oC at 1.2 atm ). This, in turn, should mean that the chemical potential of the water vapor should be larger than that of the liquid under those conditions. Estimate the difference mu subscript left parenthesis g right parenthesis end subscript minus mu subscript left parenthesis l right parenthesis end subscript in J mol-1 (no decimal places) when the pressure changes from 1.000 to 1.200 atm at the boiling point of water. The densities of liquid water and vapor water at 100 oC are 0.958 g mL-1 and 0.598 g L-1 respectively.
