I) Vinegar, a common household item with a variety of applications, is chemically dilute acetic acid. In this experiment spanning two Labs, namely Lab 1 and Lab 2, the precise percentage composition of acetic acid in commercially available vinegar of Heinz. The former Lab standardized the molarity of NaOH to be used in Lab 2 and Lab 2 involved the titration of the vinegar sample with the standardized NaOH solution. Phenolphthalein was used as the indicator in the weak acid - strong base titration to determine the concentration acetic acid in terms of molarity. Finally, from the molar concentration of acetic acid, the mass percentage of the acid in vinegar was calculated and then compared to the mass percentage claimed in the vinegar sample.

II) Heinz vinegar analyzed in the experiment is claimed to contain 5.0 % of acetic acid. However, the experimental determination revealed that the vinegar actually contains 5.46 % acetic acid instead. This gives a positive error of 9.2 % in the final parameter of the experiment and shows that the acetic acid content of the sample is 9.2 % higher than that claimed by the company.
