Answer #1

Please find the asnwers below:

Answer i: The caspase-2 protease is a specific type of non-mitochondrial protease by nature which belongs to a superfamily of cystein proteases.

Answer ii: Molecular investigations have shown that the caspase-2 cleaves the polypeptide bond after identification of the target site and re-arranges the left-over peptide by modification of the hydrogen bonds.

Answer iii: Generally, the substrate recognized by this protease must contain the amino acid sequence VDQ. Presence of this sequence makes the protease to act over the protein for its digestion.

Answer iv: Since the enzyme active site is specific for identification of the recognition site, hte enzyme displays high substrate specificity.

    2. Silk contains the repeating sequence (Gly-Ser-Gly-Ala-Gly-Ala)n. This sequence is present in beta strands that interact with each other. Considering just a single strand within a sheet, the Ser and Ala side chains will be (on both sides of the sheet in a single repeat) (in first repeat, on one side; in the next repeat on the other side) (the answer depends on whether the strands are parallel or antiparallel) (on the same side of the sheet). 4. 10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
