1) In column chromatography, separation of the analyte depends upon the polarity of the stationary and mobile phases i.e intermolecular forces exist between the analyte, mobile and stationary phases.

Fluorenone is more polar than fuorene because of the presence of carbonyl group in fluorenone. Fluorenone will bind to the polar stationary phase more strongly and therefore, travel more slowly than fluorene.

2) Acetone is comparatively polar because of partial negative charge on the oxygen atom. Therefore, acetone tend to speed up the rate.
