If silver chloride is dissolved in water you can say that the equilibrium concentrations of silver and chloride ions are: C A

AgCl(s) \rightleftharpoons Ag+(aq) + Cl-(aq)

Let us say that the equilibrium concentration of [Ag+] = [Cl-] = x M

Given, Ksp of AgCl = 1.8 x 10-10

Also,

Ksp = [Ag+][Cl-]

or, 1.8 x 10-10 = (x)(x)

or, x = 1.3 x 10-5

Hence, [Ag+] = [Cl-] = 1.3 x 10-5 M

Thus, the equilibrium concentrations of silver and chloride ions are low.

Hence, the solubility of silver chloride in water is low.
