Answer #1

In a redox reaction , the element that loses electron/s, is getting oxidised .Hence it acts as a reducing agent itself.Conversely, if an element gains electrons, it is getting reduced. Hence it acts as an oxidising agent.

Therefore , In 1) Option E is correct as Mg is getting oxidised here by losing two electrons and Cu2+ is getting reduced.

2)Similarly Option A is correct as Zn gets oxidised due to addiion of an electronegative radical to it and is hence a reducing agent.Removal of the electronegative radical makes CuSO4 the oxidising agent.

3)The sum total of charges of each atom of the compound equals to the charge of the compound.

Thus, in Cr2O72-  , Charge of Cr *2 + Charge of Oxygen * 7= -2

Thus oxidation number of Cr = +6

4) Similarly, in KMnO4, Charge of K + Charge of Mn+ Charge of O * 4 =0

Thus oxidation number of Mn = + 7
