Charge neutrality must be Maintained.

Each time a F- replaces a O2- one negative charge is removed so Mg vaccancies must be produced.

For each F- substituting for an O2- one negative charge is removed, in order to maintain charge neutrality, Two F- ions will lead to formation of one Magnesium vacancy
