Write down the specific reaction under study. Find the melting point and boiling point of each reactant and product involved in the reaction (in Celsius °C). Use the “Handbook of chemistry and Physics” as a reference, you can find a copy of one in the school library, or you can just use the internet. Calculate the number of moles of salicylic acid. This is equal to the number of moles of acetyl salicylic acid. Determine the theoretical mass (grams) of acetyl salicylic acid produced assuming the reaction goes to 100% completion. Indicate the reference used.

Salicylic Acid (C7H6O3)= 138.12 g/mol

Acetyl salicylic acid (C9H8O4)= 180.16 g/mol

% yield= actual/theoretical x 100%

find the theoretical yield of the acetysalicylic acid . EXPERIMENT 19 PREPARATION OF ASPIRIN In addition to the Fischer esterification method presented in Experiment 18, a second method for preparation of esters involves the reaction of anhydrides with the hydroxyl This method is ospecialy usoful for tho preparation of acetate esters, since acetic anhydride is an inexpensive and reactive reagent. In this experiment the hydroxyl group of salicylic acid is acetic anhydride to make acetylsalicylic acid, or aspirin. The short...
