Nucleophile is defined as the species containing negatively charge or having lone pair of electrons.

The nucleophile are attack to the electrophilic substrate. The nucleophilicity depends on the the charge density and size of the nucleophile.

Larger size or bulkier nucleophile are more difficult to attack the substrate due to staric hindrances. Thats why the bulkier nucleophiles are poor nucleophiles.
