Answer #1

For direct comparison of solubility of two salts, two salts must contain same Cation to anion ratio.

i e Two salts must be 1: 1 , 1: 2 , 1: 3 , 1:4 type.

We have to compare solubility of copper carbonate with given salts.

CuCO3 contain Cu 2+ & CO3 2-. Hence, cation : anion ratio is 1 : 1 .

Out of four given salts , PbSO4 & AgBr are 1 : 1 type salt . Hence, we can directly compare solubility of CuCO3 withPbSO4 & AgBr.

Ksp values decreases in the order PbSO4 > CuCO3 > AgBr .

Therefore, Solubility order in the order PbSO4 > CuCO3 > AgBr .

ANSWER : Without doing any calculation it is possible to determine that copper (II) carbonate is more soluble than C , and copper (II) carbonate is less soluble than A.

If two salts have different cation to anion ratio , then it is not possible to compare directly the solubility of two salts. To compare solubility of two salts , we need to do calculations.

CuCO3 contain Cu 2+ & CO3 2-. Hence, cation : anion ratio is 1 : 1 .

Ni(CN) 2 contain Ni 2+ & CN -. Hence, cation : anion ratio is 1 : 2.

BaF2 contain Ba 2+ & F -. Hence, cation : anion ratio is 1 : 2.

Hence to compare solubility of these salts we need to calculate solubility from K sp value.

ANSWER : it is not possible to determine whether copper (II) carbonate is more or less soluble than BD by simply comparing Ksp values.
