1, Ans: The inside structure is "iron", but the outer skin is copper. Copper is better suitable material for statue because of following reasons :

1. Copper is highly resistent to weather and dust.

2. Copper is eventually oxidised to get its greenish vardigris patina (copper chloride) which is tough enough to protect the bulk of the copper below.

3. Copper is lightweight and not too expensive.

4. Copper is also relitevely easy to shape, which was requirement in turning flat panels in the required figure.

2, Ans: Positively charged copper atoms in penny can combine with negatively charged oxygen atoms from the air to make a molecule called copper oxide. The old pennies looks dull and dirty because they were covered with copper oxide. It is not actually dirt, but copper oxide that makes them look so dull.
