Answer #1

The molecule of acetanilide contains three different hydrogens. They are:-

The methyl hydrogens:-

They are the hydrogen which is attached to the carbon forming methyl group. The methyl group is attached to the C=O of amide group. These hydrogens will be occur at nearly 2 ppm as they dont face any kind of distortion by an electronegative atom.

The hydrogen attached to nitrogen:-

This hydrogen is highly acidic as it is attached to an electronegative atom. The hydrogen atom will appear at downfield as greater distortion by the nitrogen atom takes place. Since, 1H peak near 8 ppm resonates with this hydrogen.

The hydrogens in the benzene ring.

They occur as multiplet and around 7.5-6 ppm. They occur at little downfield than methyl hydrogens as they are attached to sp2 carbons which result in greater distortion.

Thus,

Hydrogens a, b and c corresponds to peak 2.

Hydrogen d corresponds to peak 1.

Hydrogen e corresponds to peak 3.
