Note: Benzene ring and carbonyl group could be discarded easily because they do not exhibit the band at 3350-3310 cm-1 region.

However, in the case of the alkyne, following peaks are generally observed

  • –C≡C– stretch from 2260-2100 cm-1
  • –C≡C–H: C–H stretch from 3330-3270 cm-1 (strong and sharp peak)

But, in the given spectra, the peak at 2260-2100 cm-1 is missing and also, the peak at around 3350-3310 cm-1 is weak. This clearly indicates that the correct option is an amine.
