Answer #1

For part A: There is no phase shift in the refracted ray, therefore all the choices are equivalent (0) and should be overlapped.

largest smallest 1.50 12,water1.33 1,benzenme

For part B: The only thing that matters is which of the indices (N1 or N2) is larger. The phase shift in the reflected ray is larger if N2 is larger than N1. Using the numbers assigned by the previous answer, 2, 3, 4 and 5 are equally larger than 1 and 6.

largest smallest 1.33 2,air 1.00 1,water 1.33 mi, water1.33 uartz 1.46 1.50 nl.benaene 1.33 2,water1.33
