In the first step bromination of isobutane occurs in the presence of sunlight to form 2-bromo-2-methylpropane which is followed by formation of grignard reagent at the carbon having bromine then carboxylation occurs which is followed by acidic hydrolysis to form 2,2-dimethylpropanoic acid which is followed by attack of thionyl chloride to form 2,2-dimethylpropanoyl chloride which is followed by attack of excess ammonia to form 2,2-dimethylpropanamide.
