Going down the group metallic character increases because moving from top to bottom down the group size of the atom increases hence effective nuclear charge decreases and removal of an electron becomes more easy.

Metallic oxides 10 to react with acid because they are are basic. Usually bond between metal and oxygen is ionic.

Metals tend to lose electrons when they form ions because ionization energy of metals is very low.
