Q3) Insects are the hexapod invertebrates or six legged invertebrates belonging to the subphylum- Hexapoda and class – Insecta.

They have segmented body, which is divided into three parts 1) Head 2) thorax 3) abdomen. Legs are attached to the second part of the body that is thorax.

→ SPORACLES テHIND WINGS Y ELYTRA HEAD ANTENNAE > MANDIBLES > MAXILLARY PALP COMPOUND EYE LEGS ABDOMEN 1. FEMUR TIBA THORAY HE

Head is the anterior part of the body having sensory antennae and compound eyes attached to it, middle part of the body is called thorax to which legs are attached, thoracic region is again subdivided into three parts they are prothorax, mesothorax and metathorax, to each part a pair of legs are attached and the posterior part of the body is called the abdomen, it consists of eleven segments having digestive, respiratory, reproductive and excretory parts in them.

So legs are attached to the thoracic region of body.

Insects have six legs.

Antennae is attached to the anterior part that is to the head region of the body.

In insects respiration takes place by a system of internal tubes and sacs through which gases diffuse and deliver directly to the particular tissues, these air filled tubes are called trachea, there is no lungs in insects. Trachea opens to outside by small holes or openings called spiracles. These are found on the exoskeleton of the abdominal region of insects. Air enters the trachea by spiracles, so spiracles help in the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide.

Mouthparts of insects are found in the head region of insects, in omnivorous insects like cockroaches mouth parts are biting and chewing type, mandibles are a pair of appendages found near the mouth of insects, they are like jaws which help in biting, cutting or holding the food. Maxillae are found behind mandibles they are less strong than mandibles, they help mandibles in processing food.

Insects having wings are not segmental appendages, but they are outgrowths of exoskeleton which help in flying, they do not look like appendages or legs.
