Answer #1

The correct answer is hyperpolarization. A membrane is said to be hyperpolarized when its membrane potential becomes less than the resting membrane potential. The resting membrane potential of a membrane is usually -60 to -70 millivolts i,e the cell interior is negative as compared to the outside environment. When K+ diffusion increases i,e more and more of these ions move out of the cell, the inside of the cell will become more negative due to loss of positively charged ions, resulting in hyperpolarization. It is also caused due to entry of negatively charged chloride ions inside the cell resulting in more negative charge. The potassium ion channels are voltage gated and play an important role in restoring resting membrane Potential after action potential is generated by opening of sodium ion channels.

Please give a thumbs up!!!!
