a. one gene product catalysed the production of a sugar cyanide complex

b. one gene product catalysed the release of cyanide from the sugar complex

The production of cyanide in clover is accaried out by two genes. One gene controls the production of cyanogenic glucosides while the other gene codes for an enzyme that splits the cyanide from the sugar, so that the cyanide can be released.
