Answer #1

False.

A logistic growth curve is sigmoidal in shape.

Carrying Capacity Population Population size Time Time

Logistic growth (S shaped curve)   Exponential growth (J shaped curve)

Exponential growth occurs when the growth rate in a population stays same whatever be the its size. It however, does not occur as the population growth rate decreases after sometime due to limiting resources.

In logistic growth the population growth rate increases upto a maximum and then tends to decline. The maximum limit is imposed by the natures limiting capacity.

Nature has enough resources to support the growth of a maximum number of individuals after which the resources become limiting and so the growth rate decreases.

For exponential growth,   = rN

For logistic growth,  phppw7Nds.png

where, r = per capita growth rate

K = carrying capacity

N = population size
