Since Halobacterium has a purple coloured membrane due to a pigment called bacteriorhodopsin, it absorbs the most in the wavelengths between 500-650 nm. Two major colours falling in this range are Green (520-560 nm) and Yellow(560-590), the former showing maximum absorbance spectra.Bacteriorhodopsin has an absorption spectra opposite to the action spectrum of green plants, which absorb in red and blue regions and almost completely reflect green colour.
