2. Sexual reproduction also occurs in virtually all fungi. This involves mating between two haploid hyphae. During mating, two haploid parent cells fuse, forming a diploid spore called a zygospore. The zygospore germinates, then it undergoes meiosis which forms the haploid cells that develop into new hyphae.
One fungus lacks enzyme A - so cannot metabolize the compound X, so compound Y is not formed and do compound Z also is not formed.
Other fungus lacks enzyme C, so, cannot metabolize the compound Z even Z is formed from Y. So in both of the above fungi, arginine is not formed.
So, their progeny also can't synthesise arginine. That makes none of them to survive on compound Y.

Hence, option A is the correct answer.

4. XO Drosophila are sterile males. In flies, the Y chromosome is not involved in determining sex.
Hence, option E is the correct answer.

6a. The dominant trait is "purple".
Hence, option D is the correct answer.

A mutant plant with white flowers exists that lacks red anthocyanin pigment, normally made by enzyme P. Indeed the petal tissue lacks all detectable activity for enzyme P. Despite the lack of enzyme activity, a study of homozygous mutant cells using antibodies against the wild-type enzyme demonstrated that the cells homozygous for the mutation still had the enzyme (i.e., the antibody showed the presence of the enzyme). Which statement below could most likely explain these results? A )The mutant had...

An allele y of the yellow gene, gives flies a yellow body color compared to the dominant brown body color (yt). 1. In loppins (fictitious diploid invertebrates), ear shape is controlled by two genes with two alleles each; upright ears (F) is dominant to floppy ears (f), and double-pointed ears (P) is dominant to single-pointed ears (p). Moreover, due to genetic interactions, floppy ears are always single-pointed. A loppin with floppy ears is crossed to a loppin with upright single-pointed ears, and the phenotypic ratios in the offspring are 2 floppy : 1 double-pointed upright : 1 single-pointed upright. What are...
