Answer #1

1.(a)- 10 and -35 region is recognised by RNA pol . The -10 sequence is called pribnow box.

2.(b) DnaA protein along with ATP binds to OriC of the prokaryotic genome. After binding of DnaA

melting of 13 mer region of OriC starts and other replication enzymes such as DNA helicase and primase are recruited.

3.(b)

4.(a) When E.coli is encountered by both glucose and lactose, it metabolises glucose first resulting in

diauxic growth. This glucose effect is termed as catabolite repression.

5.(a) genetic engineering uses technology to modify the genomes. Plant breeding and

animal breeding has been done by humans for so long. That was also an infant form of genetic

engineering we have todAy.

6.(b)

7. LexA and recA are important in translesion synthesis or SOS response. RecA protein causes catalytic cleavage of lexA repressor. This lexA represses the transcription of DNA pol V which lacks proof reading activity. Hence, this is an error prone synthesis.

8.(b)

9.(a) signal transduction is basically transcription on/off at environmental cues.

10.(a) RNA molecules are deleted by northern blot. DNA by southern blot and protein by western blot.

11.(a)
