in class i learned that delayed density dependence can commonly
cause fluctuations: answer question below
In population ecology the fluctuations in the population is described in a situation where the population growth is controlled by rating with the lag time. This is done by a negative feedback and using a method of delayed density dependence.
In this process the population is allowed to increase above their normal level. This is because there should be a time lag until we get a negative feedback which is specified above. This negative feedback will bring back the population down. The density delayed dependence can be detected by a method which is called as the autocorrelation. In this the time series are continuiously analysed and noted for all the repeated patterns.
Population flucttuations can be observed and discussed by obseriving the growth patterns. In all the fluctuation patterns the numbers rise and fall over a period of time. Fluctuations can cause a drastic change in the population or may cause a deveation in the growth pattern which was observed till then. Sometimes there may even nbe a drastic increase in the population of a secific species which is also called as the population out break. The deayed density dependence which we are discussing delays the effect which the density has on the population size of that particular species.
The patterns of fluctuations can be observed by the exponential growth pattern and the logistic growth pattern. In the exponentiatl growth the population increases constantly at any given point of time. If we consider the logistic growth pattern the population here increases drastically first. After the drastic increase the growth fluctuates by small amount based on the carrying capacity.
This can be explained clearly by the graphs which have been
uploaded with this content.( hand drawn and labelled).
