Are starch, glycogen, cellulose, and chitin classified as homopolymers or heteropolymers?
  • All four polysaccharides are homopolymers.
  • All four polysaccharides are heteropolymers.
  • Starch is a heteropolymer, whereas chitin, cellulose, and glycogen are homopolymers.

Answer #1

1)chitin is found in fungi and exoskeleton of arthropods and it is a polymer of N acetylglucosamine, cellulose is a component of the cell wall of plants, starch is the form of storage of glucose in plants it consists of amylose and amylopectin and glycogen is the storage form in animals so

Chitin: provides structural support for animals such as arthropods, consists of N-acetyl glucosamine residues

starch: storage form of fuel in plant cells, it is made up of 2 polysaccharides amyloses and amylopectin

glycogen: it is the storage form of glucose in animals

cellulose: provides structural support for plants

2) cellulose, starch, glycogen are polymers of glucose and chitin is a polymer of N acetylglucosamine so all four of these are homopolymers ( made of repeating units the same monomer) so the answer is All four polysaccharides are homopolymers.
