describe how eugenol was extracted from the clove leaf explain how steam distillation works discuss how eugenol was extracted and isolated from the aquous distillate calculate and comment on the % of eugenol recovered from the clove leaf ( what can I say about what I recovered)
EXTRACTION :
EUGENOL IN CLOVES+steamdistillation+eugenol in distillate+extract withdichloromethane+eugenol in dichloro methane extract+extract with KOH+EUGENOL IN BASE EXTRACT+Wash with dichloro methane+acidifywith HCL+Extract with dichloromethane+EUGENOL IN DICHLOROMETHANE EXTRACT+Wash with distilled water+Nacl+dry with anhydrous sodium sulphate+ distill of dichloro methane=pure EUGINOL IS OBTAINED
PROCEDURE:EUGENOL will be extracted from the distillate using dichloromethane
60 ML of distillate in A 250 ML Seperating funnel.
extract with three 15 ml portions of dichloro methane .for the first two portins, shake the seperatory funnel vigorously.
then emulsion is formed.
draw ff the clear lower layer to the emulsion line for the first 2 extractions.
shake the 3 rd portion less vigorously
Longer period is allow for the the layers to seperate .
combine the dichloromethane extracts.
add enough anhydrous sodium sulphate ,so that it no longer clumps to gether.it should appear to settle as a dry powder.
swirl the flask for a couple of min.
Decant the solvent in to a clean ,dry ERLENMAYER FLASK
Add a wood boiling stick.
Evaporate the solvent on asteam bath in a Hood
The residue of crudeclove oil will be used in the nmr analysis.
percent of yield of euginol=

Isolation of eugenol lab by extraction and simple distillation 20ml of dichloromethane (1g clove oil / 10ml dichloromethane) solution I'm supposed to calculate the percent recovery of Eugenol in this mixture . However imnnot sure how I'm supposed to go on about it. Initial weight of flask(empty) was 39.8g Final weight of flask (with eugenol) 40.4g How am I supposed to calculate the percent of eugenol obtained if I don't know how much clove oil I obtained as well. Am...
POST-LAB QUESTIONS Calculate the percent (by mass) of eugenol in cloves based on your data. Eugenol typically makes up about 15-20% of the mass of clove buds. Discuss reasons why you may not have isolated this amount, and propose ways to increase your yield. 1. ES 2. Examine the IR spectrum of eugenol, and identify the signals for the major func- tional groups. A representative 'H NMR spectrum of eugenol is shown below. Assign the signals to the correct protons...
a) Concisely explain how steam distillation works b) Explain whether steam distillation is the best way to isolate propyl formate from apples
In a two-stage process, acid is extracted from water into hexanol in a liquid-liquid extraction unit (i.e. extractor) and the extract is sent to a distillation column. Assume that water is completely insoluble in hexanol (think about what this means- hint: what goes into the distillation column and what does not?). A mixture of18 wt% acid and the balance water is fed to the extractor. Pure hexanol is fed to the extractor to extract the acid. The water-rich stream leaving...
1. Describe how the process of natural selection works, and how it results in adaptations (Darwin's Observations and Conclusions) • How does unequal reproductive success lead to natural selection? What are adaptations? Explain Darwin’s observations and conclusions. • Describe evolution by natural selection? What are some important points about evolution? 2. Describe examples of and evidence for evolution by natural selection that can be seen in your daily life. 3. Discuss the different kinds of evidence that support the theory...
