Probability that he wins project A = 0.40

Probability that he wins project B = 0.80

When two events are independent then,

P (A and B) = P(A) × P(B) = 0.40 × 0.80 = 0.32

(a) P (A or B) = P(A) + P(B) - P (A and B)

= 0.40 + 0.80 - 0.32

= 0.88

(b) Probability that he does not win either project = 1 - P (A or B)

= 1 - 0.88 = 0.12
