Question

Question7 2 pts In the figure shown below, Y-22 cm. The block begins to slide (breaks loose) when X = 59 cm. What is the coefficient of static friction,us, between the block and the inclined surface? Please round your answer to two decimal places? Block of height Y moves left and increases the angle θ where tan θ = Y/X

Answer #1

from the figure

tan theta = y/x = 22/59 = 0.37

formula for static friction is

us = fs/ N = = R sin theta/ R cos theta = tan theta

us = 0.37

    The critical angle is the largest angle for which the gravitational force does not yet cause the block to move. Finding the angle is a problem in which we deal with the block as a particle in equilibrium. Analyze Because the block is an inclined surface, the normal force perpendicular to the surface does not balance the downward force of gravity. The normal force and the force of gravity produce a net force that tends to slide the block down...

    2. 2/10 points Previous Answers SerPSE10 5.AE.011. My Notes Experimental Determination of H's and The following is a simple method of measuring coefficients of friction. Suppose a block is placed on a rough surface inclined relative to the horizontal as shown in the figure. The incline angle is increased until the block starts to move. Show that you can obtain H by measuring the critical angle e, at which this slipping just occurs. The external forces exerted on a block...
