What are the similarities and differences among the five bases of power? Please ensure that you state and describe each base of power along with providing an example of each base of power.

Formal Power- based on an individual’s position in an organization. It can come from the ability to coerce or reward, or from formal authority.

a)Coercive Power- a power base that is dependent on fear of the negative results from failing to comply.

b)Reward Power- compliance achieved based on the ability to distribute rewards that others view as valuable.

c)Legitimate Power- power a person receives as a result of his or her position in the organization.

Personal Power- comes from an individual’s characteristics.

d)Expert Power- influence based on skills or knowledge.

e)Referent Power- influence based on identification with a person who has desirable resources or personal traits.
