A 0.42-kg mass is suspended from a string, forming a pendulum. The period of this pendulum is 3.0 s when the amplitude is 2.4 cm. The mass of the pendulum is now reduced to 0.35 kg. What is the period of oscillation now, when the amplitude is 1.6 cm?

Answer #1

Time period of a simple pendulum is T = 2π

From the given information, the mass and amplitude of simple pendulum are changing. The change in mass or change in amplitude do not affect time period.

Only change in length of simple pendulum and change in acceleration due to gravity can change time period.

The new time period of oscillation is T=3.0\,s
