As chromosome condensation occurs, a 300 angstrom fiber is formed. It appears to be composed of five or six solenoid coiled together. Such a structure is called nucleosomes. These fibers form a series of loops that further condense into the chromatin fiber and are then coiled into chromosome arms making up each chromatid.
