  • Freezing point depression is a colligative property. It is the decrease in freezing point of a solvent on addition of non volatile solute.
  • Suppose you have pure water which freezes at 273 K, if you add some table salt NaCl in it then it will freeze at a temperature lower than 273 K. The difference between two temperatures is called depression in freezing point.
  • Since it is a colligative property it depends on the number of solute particles only regardless of their nature.
