Answer #1

Answer. If 20% of the kernels experience a transposition events of Ac/Ds system at random sites then it can be said that total 20% of kernels will be mutated as the Ac/Ds result in transposition mutation.

So there will be 200 kernels will be mutated and rest 800 kernels will be yellow.

Transposable elements can cause corn kernels to be spotted if they jump in or out of the color genes during the development of the kernel. Starting with an Ac element inserted in the C gene, the sizes of the colored spots due to transposition events can vary greatly. This is because: Larger patches of color are due to transpositions early in kernel development and smaller patches are due to later-occurring events        Larger patches of color are due to...

    20. A corn plant is homozygous for a mutant allele that results in no pigment in the seed (i.e., white). The mutant is caused by Ds insertion that often exits late in seed development, when there is an active Ac element in the genome. If there is NO active Ac element, the seeds of this plant will be: A) no pigment (i.e., white) B) pigmented all over C) white with small spots of pigment D) white with large spots of...

A purebred sweet corn plant that produces purple and smooth kernels pollinates a purebred plant that produces yellow and wrinkled kernels. When the F1 was testcrossed, four types of kernels on the cobs were observed in almost equal proportions: purple and smooth, purple and wrinkled, yellow and smooth, and yellow and wrinkled. Which of the following statement(s) are TRUE? I. The F1 plants can only produce purple and wrinkled kernels when selfcrossed. II. If the parent that produces yellow and...

    1. Use the picture provided to count the number of yellow and purple corn kernels. You should count ALL of the kernels visible in the picture. Each kernel is a seed-seeds are baby plants. Therefore, each kernel represents an offspring of the plant cross. Enter these Observed Values into Table 1. 048 2. Tally the total number of offspring that are yellow and purple by adding them together. This is the total Observed (O) value. Fill into Table 2. Table...

Question 2 Portugal has a typical insolation of 1000 W/m2. A solar PV plant located there has an output of 11 MWp. Since the collectors track the sun, the power output is steady at 11 MW from 09:00 to 16:00 Hrs and almost zero outside this time. The lifetime of the system is 20 years with an annual operating cost and total capital investment of €1 million and €75 million, respectively. The cost of capital is 7% p.a. The efficiency...
