Answer #1

pottasium magnate is a oxidizing reagent its used mainly alcohol to carbonyl compound, and magnate it self reduced to mn(vii) to mn(iv). some times primary alcohol react with manganate to form carboxylic acid. pottasium permanganate react with alcohol manganate oxidation state (vii) to (iii) changed, so manganate colour should be decolourised.

2KMnO4 (vii) + 3C2H5OH → 2MnO2 (iv)+ 3CH3CHO + 2KOH + 2H2O
