If I can amend the Constitution, I will add a provision for the elimination of life-term for federal courts, especially the Supreme Court. I would replace it with a longer, non-inevitable word over 20 years. Furthermore, I believe that the post of Chief Justice should be renewable not for life but a four-year term.
This reform would reduce the intensity of the debate on court nominations because the stakes would not be so high; This would ease the pressure to appoint young judges who would spend maximum time in court; This would reduce the stress on federal judges so that members of the opposite party could select their replacements to avoid the retirement date, And it will bring fresh blood and thinking to the judicial system.
