Question

1. The anionic tridentate tris(pyrazolyl)borate, L, shown below forms a complex with Mn) with the composition Mn(W)/L)SCeHs, where SCets is an anionic monodentate thiolate ligand. This complex has a sextet ground state and besides two very weak ligand field transitions it shows a moderately intense absorption at 370 nm (e-500 M-1cm2). When a second equivalent of the ligand L is added to a solution of the complex the band at 370 nm disappears, the ligand field transition gain intensity and a doublet ground results. Explain all of these observations. - HB
