Perform the following calculation for the 9.625” intermediate casing cement job for your well offshore Texas.
Assume:
Surface Casing at 5940 ft 13.375 in 68 lb/ft
Intermediate Casing at 10,300 ft 9.625 in. 47 lb/ft P-110 Buttress thread with Float shoe on the bottom, Float collar 2 joints above shoe
Cement: Lead slurry – Balcones Class H + 35% Silica + 7% Bentonite
14.5 lb/gal 1.92 cuft/sk 8.89 gal/sk water
Tail slurry – Balcones Class H + 35% Silica + additives
16.4 lb/gal 1.40 cuft/sk 4.99 gal/sk water
Hole: 12.25 in diameter plus use 30% excess cement in open hole
Rig pumps: 0.107 bbl/stroke
Requirements: 1000 ft of “tail slurry”
Cement top at 4000 ft
70 barrels of the lead spacer in front of cement
100 ft of freshwater spacer behind cement (tail spacer)
Mix and pump cement at 4 bbl/min
Displace cement and spacer with mud using rig pumps at
8 bbl/min
Determine:
A) The volume of the lead slurry and the volume of the tail slurry of cement required in barrels cubic feet and sacks of cement.
B) The volume of makeup water required for each of lead and tail slurry
C) Volume of water required for tail spacer
D) Volume of mud required to displace cement and spacer in barrels
E) Time required to mix and pump cement and spacer and displace with mud (absolute minimum pumping time for cement)
