Consider the structures of KHP and phenolphthalein and explain why each has a single acidic hydrogen (one that dissociates as a weak acid) when there are several hydrogen atoms in the structure (HINT: Review the rules for predicting acid strength).

The acidic Hydrogen is generally the one which is attached to high electronegative element like O . In the structures we have only 1 acidic H in each . This is because once H+ is released the resulting anion is stabilised due to resonance . The more stable is anion the higher is acidic nature of that Hydrogen. For remaiing H present in molecule when it is removed as H+ ( example the benzene C-H) we dont get stable anion . Hence those H are not acidic.
