Question

Genomics

Bat is a probable origin for the COVID-19 pandemics. However, due to the presence of functional genetic elements within the gene of the virus, some scientists in Malaysia suspected that outbreak of COVID-19 in Malaysia is originated from Orangutan and not bat. As a genomicist and bioinformatician, design and illustrate a cost-effective experiment to determine the origin of COVID-19 in Malaysia. (25 marks)

Question 1 1 pts Which of the following is true? Viruses cannot evolve because they are not technically alive; they cannot replicate on their own When viruses hijack a host's cells to replicate, mistakes made in the copying of their DNA or RNA can generate a huge number of genetic variants in the virus population A mutation in the molecules involved in binding to a host cell that allows binding to a new host species will not affect the virus's...

By the end of this week you would have read about descriptive, analytic, or case control studies. If you were asked to implement one of these to understand the trends, exposure, and treatment of this virus (or even another hypothetical one), what are some elements which need to be considered? (15 marks) As there is no any effective medicine for the treatment for Covid-19, quarantine, isolation and social distancing are the bulwarks to prevent the prevention of the virus. However, vaccines being developed by a number of companies around the world have offered a ray of hope. Under such circumstances, Bangladesh has announced to join the production of vaccines. Bangladesh will work with the UK and China if everything goes right, said sources at the Directorate General of Drug Administration...

Read the following passage focusing your attention on the scientific procedures and scientific abilities illustrated in it. Think about what types of experiments (observation, testing or application) are described. Identify the hypothesis, predictions, outcomes of experiments and assumptions that appear in the passage. The standard explanation of how humans originally acquired AIDS is that HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) originally was transmitted to humans from monkeys or apes carrying SIV, simian immunodeficiency virus. How could the transmission have occurred? Several similar...

The language used is generalized for the non-scientist and does not include any molecular details, such as methylation of a specific nucleotide in an allele or modification of a specific histone tail amino acid. The world’s 3 billion-plus smartphones emit the kind of data that health authorities covet during outbreaks. They show where individuals are, where they’ve been and who they might have talked to or even touched — potentially offering maps to find infected people and clues to stopping new ones. But gaining access to this data, even amid a global pandemic, is made complex by the legal and ethical issues surrounding government access to information that can reveal intimate details about citizens’...

    2. A dominant allele H reduces the number of body bristles that Drosophila flies have, giving rise to a “hairless” phenotype. In the homozygous condition, H is lethal. An independently assorting dominant allele S has no effect on bristle number except in the presence of H, in which case a single dose of S suppresses the hairless phenotype, thus restoring the "hairy" phenotype. However, S also is lethal in the homozygous (S/S) condition. What ratio of hairy to hairless flies...

Write a reflective paragraph summarizing your thoughts. Organizational change research has been criticized for neglecting the role of history in the study of change (Pettigrew et al., 2001). Much of the existing research tends to treat organizational change as “episodic” and comprising of independent events (Pettigrew, 1987, p. 655). More generally, research in organizational behavior has tended to ignore the theoretical and methodological significance of context in the examination of work attitudes and outcomes (Johns, 2006). In the studies reported...
