Answer #1

Zemiya has Tundra(ET) type of climate, Since its avg. temperature is below 0 degree avg. precipitation is below 25 and temperature of the warmest month is above 0 degree.

The climate of McMurdo Station is Ice cape(EF). The temperature never gets above 0 degree.

The significance of mean temperature exceeding zero can understood by the fact that in Polar climate the temperature is so less that no trees can grow, but with few months where the temperature exceeds 0 degree other specialized plants can grow. In ice capes climate no trees and plants grow.

Apart from the sun angle, the negative feedback mechanism of ice also helps to keeps the temperature so less in these location. The ice has a higher albedo effect that means the ice reflects maximum amount of Sun's energy that falls on it. Therefore, once the ice is formed in winter season it refelects most of the Sun's enegy leading to the a very less heat in the atmosphere that is not sufficient to raise the temperature in the summer months and ice continues to accumulate even in the summer months which further lowers the temperature.
