Peripheral chemoreceptors are carotid and aortic bodies. They are sensory extension in to blood vessel which detect changes in chemical concentration of blood. Peripheral chemoreceptors monitor concentrations of blood borne chemicals and maintain homeostasis in the cardiorespiratory system. Carotid body located on one of the main arteries of neck, while aortic body located on aortic arch.
