Answer #1

Valance electrons are the electrons present in the outermost orbital of an atom

(21) Valance electrons of Sulphite ion

The number of valence electrons for molecules can be calculated by adding the valence electrons of all the atoms

lewis structure of sulphite ion exists in three different resonance forms

sulfur and oxygen comes in the same group hence the valance electrons of sulfur and oxygen both are 6

Hence the valance electrons of sulfite ion is

6+6+6+6 - (-2) = 26,

-2 comes from two negative charges

Hence the answer is option [3]

(22)

each oxygen will have two pair of lone pairs. Acetic acid (given molecule) having two oxygen hence total four lone pair is present

:o: HH H .. но HO н Lewis structure without lone pair Lewis structure with lone pair

Hence the answer is option [3]

(23)

Iodite ion is known as IO2-

The structure is io

We can see that central iodine is surrounded by a single bond, a double bond and two lone pair

Hence the answer is option [1]
