Two cell lines (A and B) tested for viable cell numbers in the MTT assay at confluency under identical conditions yield absorbance values of 0.90 and 0.63, respectively. Two reasons for this discrepancy
MTT assays is a metabolic assay that rely on a mitochondrial reductase to convert the tetrazole to formazan. The assumption is that the conversion is dependent on the number of viable cells.
The reason for difference in absorbance value cane be - there can be instances where cells are still slowing metabolizing but not actively in division.
Many reductases and compounds in cell free culture can convert MTT to formazan,. Very healthy cells can also have a pretty low basal metabolic rate and give you low MTT production. So to say it shows cell death/proliferation can be a bit presumptuous.

(b) A saturated specimen of cohesionless sand was tested under drained conditions in a triaxial compression test apparatus and the sample failed at a deviator stress of 470 kN/m and the plane of failure made an angle of 58° to the horizontal I Determine the magnitudes of the principal stresses. (4 marks) II. Determine the magnitude of the deviator stress and the major principle stress at failure for another identical sample of sand if it is tested under a cell...
A submarine model (L/Lm 52 will be tested in fresh water under two different conditions: a) b) on the surface, where the prototype moves at 25 kt (knots) submerged, where the prototype moves at 2.9 kt Enforcing dynamic similarity in each case, find the model speed (m/s) and the ratio of drag force on the prototype in seawater compared to that for the model. For case (a), compute the ratio of model to prototype Reynolds numbers and discuss its significance....
Title: Development of an Adhesion Assay and Characterization of an Adhesion-Deficient Mutant of Pseudomonas fluorescens RESULTS Bacterial adhesion to sand columns. In the initial column assays with soil-and-sand mixtures, P. fluorescens PfO-1 and E. coli SLH25 had the highest and lowest adhesion values, respectively. Therefore, the sand column assay was optimized to yield the greatest difference in percent adhesion for these two strains. PfO-1 bacteria grown in minimal medium to the logarithmic phase were washed and suspended in either minimal...

Please do all questions... A cell phone battery manufacturer claims that one of their batteries for a particular cell phone will outperform a competitor's equivalent brand. To establish this claim, a researcher selected samples of the two brands of batteries and perform accelerated tests on them in the lab under identical conditions. A random sample of 55 of the manufacturer's battery was selected and placed on test. A corresponding random sample of 55 of the competitor's battery was also put...
Unit 3 Study Resource Meiosis • Process by which diploid cells create haploid cells NOT part of the cell cycle > only some cells ever undergo meiosis During meiosis I, homologous chromosomes line up to allow them to be separated into two new cells o They can become "tangled" during this phase, which leads to crossing-over (rearranging the alleles) O Result of meiosis I is two non-identical haploid cells Meiosis Il looks very similar to mitosis, in that sister chromatids...
A. B. The 95% confidence interval is _____ <μd< _____. (Round to two decimal places as needed.) What does the confidence interval suggest about farmer Joe's claim that type 1 seed is better than type 2 seed? A. Because the confidence interval only includes positive values and does not include zero, there is not sufficient evidence to support farmer Joe's claim. B. Because the confidence interval includes zero, there is sufficient evidence to support farmer Joe's claim. C. Because the...

BACKGROUND The first part of this assignment focuses on the thermodynamics of enzyme-catalysed reactions. To answer the questions posed you will need apply the following two equations. Note that you may need to re- arrange these equations to determine the value you need. You also need to take care with the units of the values you use and determine. The first equation defines the relationship between the change in free energy (AG ") and the equilibrium between the products and...
