Pump Efficiency: -Defined as ratio of water horse power output from the pump to the shaft horse power input for the pump. The Efficiency of a particular pump is estimated by determining two values, (1) pump flow rate (2) Total Head (1) Flow Rate (Q): Flow Rate is total water volume that posses through a fixed point (2) Total Head: Total head is determined by measuring the distance from the source water surface, to the output of pump. Note that the total head is the distance from surface to output. \r\n In our problem pump is not straight so point A will be called source and B output. Distance there will be 40 inches. 40 inches = 3.33 feet In addition, pressure at the pump out let also needs to be measured. The total head can be determined by knowing that 2.306 feet of water is equal to 1 pound per square inch of pressure.
