Answer #1

The Lewis structure of SiS2 is given by

:01: Si

a. Out of eight electron pairs, four are engaged in bonding.and hence total four lone pairs are present in the molecule.

b. Two electron domains present, due to two double bonds.

c. As the Si atom is SP hybridised, electronic shape is linear.

d. Molecular shape includes all three atoms. As a whole, molecular shape is linear.

e. No resonance is observed.

f. Si is has a lower electronegativity value compared to S. This means the molecule has polar bonds, however, since the polar bonds are equal and opposite to each other (both point away from the Si molecule in opposite directions) they “cancel out”.Hence as a whole, the molecule is non-polar.

g. Hybridization is SP.

    1. For each compound, draw the Lewis dot structure, the number of lone pairs, and the number of electronic groups for the central atom. Each Lewis dot structure follows the octet rule: hydrogen has one bond, all other atoms are surrounded by a total of eight electrons. Each covalent bond counts as we clectrons. Each nonbonded pair of electrons (lone pairs) count as two electrons. The number of nonbonded electrons is how many electrons from the central atom are not...
