How many 20 resistors must be connected in series to give an equivalent resistance to five 200 resistors connected in parallel?
SOLUTION :
5 resistors of 200 ohms each connected in parallel is :
= 1 / [ 1/200 + 1/200 + 1/200 + 1/200 + 1/200 ]
= 1 / [ 5/200 ]
= 200/5
= 40 homes
So its equivalent is 2 resistors of 20 ohms connected in series which will also be equal to 40 ohms.
Hence, 2 resistors of 20 ohms in series is equivalent to 5 resistors of 200 ohms each connected in parallel. (ANSWER).
