Question

16. 5 points) Quince and Bottom are dragging their ice fishing shack off Lake by standing on the shore and pulling with ropes in the directions shown on the diagram. Quince exerts a force of 250 N and Bottom exerts a force of 325 N. If the mass of the shack is 395.0 kg, how fast will it be sliding after they have been pulling for 10 seconds? Assume the frozen lake is a frictionless surface. North Quince 42.0 Bottom 10.0° East

Answer #1

Angle between the forces (pull) = 42° - 10° = 32°

Resultant force, F can be found using vector addition

F2-2502+ 3252+2 × 250 × 325 × cos32.

F553.11N

Acceleration= Force/ mass

F 553.11 m 395.0 -= 1.4m/82

Kinematic equation

v= u+at

v Is final speed, u Is initial speed which is zero as shack was initially at rest, t is time which is 10 seconds, a=1.4m/s^2 Is acceleration.

Therefore

v=0+1.4 imes10

u = 14m/s
