Answer #1

Staphylococcus aureus is a gram positive, spore-forming bacteria that is implicated in many of the bacterial infections such as skin infections, pneumonia, endocarditis, etc. This organism is also resistant to several of the antibiotics.

Diseases caused by these resistant strains cannot be controlled with the single antibiotic therapy, the combination therapy is generally used to treat such infections, or sometimes it needs the newer drugs. Primaxin is a methicillin-resistant drug that acts by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis of both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic (tetracycline) that acts by inhibiting the protein synthesis.
