Please explain in detail ( a paragraph or more) why C-C bonds and O-H bonds are significant in Grignard reactions?

Grignard reaction is a addition reaction of alkyl magnesium halide (nucleophile in nature) to the carbonyl functionality.

In which nucleophilic alkyl/aryl group (carbon having negative charge) will adds the carbonyl carbon to form C-C bond, and in final step salt of magnesium bromide present as OMgBr will be hydrolyzed to form O-H bond.
